Sumter National Forest

Modoc trail
We spent a gorgeous Saturday hiking in the Sumter National Forest.  We started with the 1.7 mile Lick Fork Lake trail.  After that, we had lunch at the Park Row CafĂ© in Edgefield, SC. We still had some energy left, so we explored the Modoc trail on the way back home.

Start of yard sale season...

Antique bikes at Cars and Coffee
We started the day with Cars and Coffee in their new location at the Grovetown County Exhibition Center.  We went to two yard sales--Warren Baptist and Musical Theater Workshop.  I mostly bought clothes to recycle into totebags.

Busy weekend...

New couch.
Busy weekend, nothing really cool to report, but we had the dishwasher repaired, Kristin finished the coursework part of drivers training, we bought a new-to-us couch, Kristin and I made stuffed shells for dinner, and I visited Nikky at college.

Snow!

Snow from Jonas
We had some snow from the Blizzard Jonas also.  Maybe not as much as other parts of the country, but we also had our share of closures, cancellations, and delays.  The difference is that I took a nap in the early afternoon, and when I awoke, all the snow was gone.

Return to Normal

Painting

Kristin restarted school last week, Nicole went back to school for another semester yesterday.  Paul and I return to work today.  We had a good Christimas break with everyone at home.  We got a lot of things done, including painting the entranceway and hallway.

Abbeville and Ninety-Six

McGowan-Barksdale-Bundy House

Saturday we decided to tour around South Carolina.  We started in Abbeville, where we ate at a Mexican restaurant in the Town Square.  Abbeville contains many historical buildings, so we walked around Abbeville to see them; most of the stores were closed for the holiday.  After visiting Abbeville, we drove to Ninety-Six and toured the Ninety-Six National Historic Site which contains the best example of a star fort.  The one-mile paved walking tour was interesting.  The site has other one or two mile hikes along some of the original roads, but they were closed due to all of the rain we have had lately.  We'll just have to revisit.
